Use your own domain

How do I point my own domain (play.mydomain.com) at my server?

Add an SRV record (or an A record plus SRV) at your DNS provider pointing to the server's host and port.

Before you start: A domain and access to its DNS settings.

Step by step

  1. Find the server's host/IP and port in the panel.
  2. At your DNS provider, add an A record: name play, value the server IP. In Cloudflare, set it to DNS only (grey cloud); the orange proxy breaks Minecraft.
  3. Add an SRV record: service _minecraft, protocol _tcp, name play, priority 0, weight 5, port = your server port, target = play.mydomain.com.
  4. Wait a few minutes to an hour for DNS to update.
  5. In Minecraft add a server with the address play.mydomain.com (no port) and join.
  6. With a dedicated IP on port 25565, the A record alone is enough.

Check it worked: Joining with your domain reaches the server.

Why it happens: SRV records let players join without typing the port.
