Update or remove a plugin

How do I update a plugin or uninstall it?

Replace the old jar with the new one (or delete it) while the server is stopped, then start it; the plugin's data folder keeps your settings.

Before you start: A backup, and the new version's jar if updating.

Step by step

  1. Take a backup in the Backups tab so you can go back if the update breaks something.
  2. Stop the server so the old jar is not in use.
  3. To update: in Plugins use Update if shown, or in Files > plugins delete the old jar and upload the new one. Keep only one jar per plugin.
  4. To remove: delete the jar. Delete its folder (plugins/<Name>/) too only if you want its data gone.
  5. Start the server and check the console.
  6. Read the plugin's update notes: big updates sometimes need config changes.

Check it worked: /plugins shows the new version, or the plugin is gone.

Why it happens: Running servers keep jars open, so swapping them live causes errors.
