Unknown command or no permission

Players get "Unknown command" or "You do not have permission".

Unknown command means the plugin is not loaded or the name is wrong; no permission means the player needs the permission node.

Before you start: LuckPerms installed for permissions.

Step by step

  1. Check the plugin is loaded with /plugins; it must be green.
  2. Check the exact command in the plugin's documentation; some need a prefix like /essentials:home when two plugins share a name.
  3. For permission errors, find the node in the plugin's docs (for example essentials.home).
  4. Give it to everyone with lp group default permission set essentials.home true, or to a rank instead of default.
  5. Check a player with lp user Name permission check essentials.home.
  6. Ops bypass most checks, but do not op players just to fix permissions.

Check it worked: Players can run the command.

Why it happens: Commands come from plugins, and each is guarded by a permission.
