Resource pack will not download

Players get "Failed to download resource pack".

The link in server.properties must be a direct download link to a .zip, and its SHA-1 must match if set.

Before you start: The resource pack zip hosted somewhere with a direct link.

Step by step

  1. Upload the pack somewhere that gives a direct link (for example a GitHub release or mc-packs.net).
  2. Test the link in a private browser window: it must download the .zip immediately.
  3. In server.properties set resource-pack=<the link>. For Dropbox, change ?dl=0 to ?dl=1.
  4. Set resource-pack-sha1 to the pack's SHA-1 hash, or leave it empty.
  5. Restart the server and rejoin; players must allow server resource packs in the server's entry in the multiplayer list.
  6. Keep the pack small (under about 100 MB) so it downloads quickly for everyone.

Check it worked: The pack downloads on join.

Why it happens: Share-page links (Google Drive, Dropbox preview pages) return a web page instead of the zip.
