Install mods on Fabric or Forge

How do I add mods to my server?

Use the Mods tab (or upload jars to mods/), choosing mods for your loader and Minecraft version, and install the same mods on every player's client where required.

Before you start: A modded server: Fabric (set in Versions) or Forge (chosen at order; ask support to switch).

Step by step

  1. Check Versions shows Fabric or Forge and note the Minecraft version.
  2. Open Mods, search and install. Fabric servers also need the Fabric API mod.
  3. Or upload the .jar files to Files > mods.
  4. Only add server-side or both-side mods; client-only mods (minimaps, shaders) crash servers.
  5. Restart and check the console for missing dependencies.
  6. Give players the same mods (a modpack in Prism/CurseForge/Modrinth makes this easy).

Check it worked: The server starts with the mods listed in the console, and players can join.

Why it happens: Mods need the loader (Fabric, Forge, NeoForge) and exact Minecraft version they were built for.
