Take a backup

How do I back up my server?

Open Backups and create a backup; it saves the whole server (world, plugins, configs) as one archive you can restore or download.

Before you start: A free backup slot (12 GB plans and up include some; any plan can add slots in Billing).

Step by step

  1. Run save-all in the console so the world is fully written to disk.
  2. Open Backups and click Create Backup.
  3. Give it a clear name, like "before 1.21 update", so you can find it later.
  4. Wait until it shows as completed with a size; big servers take a few minutes. You can keep playing meanwhile.
  5. Download important backups too, so you have a copy that does not depend on the server.
  6. Take one before every risky change: version updates, new modpacks, big plugin changes, AI Builder experiments.

Check it worked: The backup is listed with a size and date.

Why it happens: Backups protect against griefing, bad updates and mistakes.
