Use your own domain for your site
I already own a domain. Can I point it at my CoreX site?
Yes, through a free Cloudflare account: an A record to your site, plus an Origin Rule that sends visitors to your site's port.
Before you start: A domain you own, a free Cloudflare account, and the IP address and port shown under Site settings.
Step by step
- Add your domain to Cloudflare and change its nameservers at your registrar to the two Cloudflare gives you.
- In Cloudflare, under DNS, add an A record for the name you want (for example www) pointing to the IP address shown under Site settings, Use your own domain. Leave the proxy (orange cloud) on.
- Under Rules, Origin Rules, create a rule: when the host name equals your name, rewrite the destination port to the port shown under Site settings.
- Under SSL/TLS, set the encryption mode to Flexible for that host name (a Configuration Rule can do this for one host name only).
- Open your domain in a browser. Cloudflare issues the certificate for you; the first one can take a few minutes.
- If your site is an app that builds links, read the name visitors used from the X-Forwarded-Host header.
Check it worked: Your domain opens your site over https.
Why it happens: Your site listens on its own port, and browsers expect port 443. Cloudflare sits in between, provides HTTPS and forwards to the right port.
Open a ticket with your domain and service ID if a step does not match what you see in Cloudflare; we will go through it with you.
