Pre-generate the world and set a world border
Lag when players explore new areas or fly with elytra.
Generating new chunks is expensive; pre-generate the area inside a world border before players explore.
Before you start: The Chunky plugin (Plugins tab) or mod, and a quiet time (it takes a while).
Step by step
- Choose a size, for example a 5,000-block radius around spawn.
- Install Chunky (and ChunkyBorder for a border) from the Plugins tab and restart.
- Run: chunky radius 5000, then chunky start. Progress shows in the console.
- Let it finish; you can stop and resume with chunky pause / chunky continue.
- Set a world border so players cannot leave the generated area: worldborder set 10000 (diameter).
- Repeat for the nether and end if needed.
- Run pre-generation when few players are online; it uses a lot of CPU while it runs.
Check it worked: Exploring and elytra flight no longer drop TPS.
Why it happens: Every new chunk is generated live, which stalls the server when players move fast.
Disk use grows with pre-generation; check your plan has space.
