RAM always shows high in the panel

The panel shows RAM at 90-100% all the time. Is that bad?

Not by itself: Java takes the memory it is allowed and manages it inside; it is only a problem with lag or out-of-memory errors.

Before you start: A moment to watch the server under normal use.

Step by step

  1. Check TPS: if it is 20 and nobody complains, a high number is normal.
  2. Watch the graph in Statistics: a sawtooth (up, then dropping) is healthy garbage collection.
  3. A line that only climbs until a crash is a leak: see the out-of-memory guide.
  4. Paper servers with 6 GB+ benefit from Aikar's flags (see the Startup guide) for smoother collection.
  5. Only upgrade if you also see lag or memory errors.
  6. Restarting shows a lower number for a while; it rises again as Java settles, which is expected.

Check it worked: TPS is 20 with memory high but stable.

Why it happens: The Java garbage collector frees memory lazily, so usage looks high even when the server is fine.
