Lag for one player only, or high ping

Only one player lags, or everyone has high ping but TPS is fine.

If TPS is 20, it is network lag: the player's connection or their distance from the server.

Before you start: The player's ping and your TPS at the same time.

Step by step

  1. Run tps: if it is 20, the server is fine.
  2. Ask the player to use a cable, close downloads, and turn off VPNs.
  3. Run a traceroute to the server host (tracert on Windows) and see where delay starts.
  4. Players far from the server location will always have higher ping (Europe vs North America).
  5. If everyone suddenly has high ping, check the CoreX Discord for an announced network problem.
  6. Pick the location closest to most players when ordering; ask support about moving a server if your players are mostly on another continent.

Check it worked: The player's ping is stable and they stop rubber-banding.

Why it happens: Ping depends on the route between the player and the server location.

If everyone's ping jumps with TPS at 20, contact support with times and a traceroute.
