CoreX Hosting

Move a server from another host

How do I bring my server over from another host?

Download your files from the old host (or use the Importer to check its SFTP), upload them to CoreX, set the same software and version, and start.

Before you start: Access to the old host's files (SFTP details or a downloadable backup).

Step by step

  1. On the old host, stop the server and make a full backup or zip of the server folder.
  2. On CoreX, open Versions and select the same software and Minecraft version as the old server.
  3. Optional: open the Importer tab and test the old host's SFTP address to be sure it is reachable.
  4. Upload the files: small servers in Files (upload the zip, then Unarchive); big ones with SFTP (FileZilla) to the root folder.
  5. Do not copy the old host's server jar or startup scripts; CoreX uses the one from Versions.
  6. In server.properties, leave server-port as CoreX set it.
  7. Start the server and check the console for errors.

Check it worked: The world, plugins and player data are the same as on the old host.

Why it happens: A Minecraft server is just its files; the world, plugins and configs move as a folder.

Big or complicated moves: the one-day developer service can do it for you (contact support on Discord first).
