Edit server.properties and other configs

How do I edit server.properties or a plugin config directly?

Open the file in Files, edit it in the browser editor, save, and restart (or reload that plugin).

Before you start: Know which file you need: server.properties is in the root; plugin configs are in plugins/<PluginName>/config.yml.

Step by step

  1. Stop the server if you are editing server.properties (it is re-saved on shutdown and could overwrite your edit).
  2. Open Files and click the file to open the editor.
  3. Make the change. In YAML files (.yml) keep the indentation exactly: spaces only, never tabs, and a space after each colon.
  4. Click Save in the editor. A message confirms the save; if you close the editor without saving, the change is lost.
  5. Start or restart the server. For plugin configs, many plugins also have a reload command (for example /essentials reload).
  6. If the server or plugin errors after the edit, undo it: the console usually names the file and line.

Check it worked: The console starts without config errors and the setting takes effect.

Why it happens: Settings not in Quick Settings, and all plugin settings, live in files.
