Change your bot's runtime, start file or start command
How do I switch between Node.js and Python, or change how my bot starts?
Open Bot settings in the panel: pick the runtime, set the start file or your own start command, and choose whether dependencies are installed before each start. Changes apply at the next start.
Before you start: Your bot's panel. Only the owner of the bot (not sub-users) can change these.
Step by step
- Open your bot and click Bot settings in the sidebar.
- Under Runtime, choose the language and version your code needs. Your files are not touched when you switch.
- Under Start, set the start file relative to your files (index.js, bot.py, or a path like src/main.py).
- If your project starts another way, type it under Start command instead, for example npm start or python -m mybot. When a command is set it is used instead of the start file.
- Leave "Install dependencies before each start" on unless you manage node_modules or your Python packages yourself.
- Click Save changes, then Restart the bot so it starts with the new settings.
Check it worked: After the restart, the first Console line shows the runtime version you chose and your bot starts.
Why it happens: Each bot runs on one runtime at a time, started by one file or one command.
